In this episode of Media Coffee we speak to ANP (Algemeen Nederlands Persbureau) Editor-in-Chief, Freek Staps, about working with journalists in the Netherlands.
An experienced reporter, Freek is a former New York-based correspondent, a Harvard Fellow, a Columbia University J-School Fellow, and now oversees the Dutch national news agency ANP.
Freek’s tips for working with Dutch media:
- When presenting specific data or information about a country, consider how the data is relevant right now and how journalists can use it
- Be transparent and honest with reporters – offer them an exclusive release and avoid offering it to other journalists at the same time
ANP was founded in 1934 by the association of Dutch newspapers (NDP), with the goal to produce a fast, fair and accurate alternative to the existing commercial news agencies.
